Signa Trust Mechanical Engineering Degree Final Year Bursary Give-Away (Social Media Campaign)

  • We are giving away a fourth (final) year BEng Mechanical Engineering Bursary.
  • Fourth (final) year studies will commence in 2023 and must be completed at one of the following tertiary institutions: University of Pretoria, University of The Witwatersrand or Stellenbosch University.
  • For your chance to win this bursary you must complete the online entry form and write and submit a motivation letter as to why you want to win the bursary from Signa Trust to complete your fourth (final) year of a BEng Mechanical Engineering degree in 2023, as well as what your plans and dreams are.
  • Entries which does not include a motivation letter will not be considered for the bursary prize.
  • This giveaway closes on Thursday, 30th of June at 11:59 pm and the winner will be notified telephonically by Signa Trust.
  • To enter you must meet the following criteria:
    • South African resident
    • Female
    • Age 18 – 35 years
    • Matric with above average marks
    • Have completed or is currently in your third year of studying a BEng Mechanical Engineering degree
    • From a disadvantaged background with a total household income of less than R15 000 per month
  • Should you be considered as the winner of the bursary, you must supply the following documentation:
    • A recently certified copy of your ID to verify nationality and age. (Front and back of card)
    • Proof of combined household income of parents/guardian, pensions or Sassa grants etc. (Salary advice or other documents)
    • And/or an affidavit regarding employment/unemployment status.
    • Proof of disability (if needed)
    • Your matric certificate.
    • Your latest academic record or results from previous year’s study.
  • The winner will be selected by the Signa Trust board of trustees.
  • Prize may not be sold or exchanged for cash.
  • Should the winner not be able to supply the required documentation for verification, the prize will be forfeited, and a new winner will be announced.

Terms: Instructions on how to enter this Competition, including all rules, mechanics, procedures, directions and all prizes form part of these Terms. If you take part in this Competition, you expressly agree to be bound by these Terms and accept that Signa Group’s decision is final and shall be made in Signa Trust’s sole, absolute and unfettered discretion, and no correspondence will be entered into. Prizes are not transferable or exchangeable in any form and in particular cannot be exchanged for cash.

Eligibility: The Competition is open to all citizens and legal residents of South Africa (provided that the participant is also a legal resident in South Africa at the time of winning and receiving any prize herein) who at the time of entering the Competition are between the age of 18 (eighteen) and 35 (thirty-five) years, and are in possession of a valid South African Identity Document (in the case of non-residents, a valid passport and necessary residency permission). Persons that are excluded from entering the Competition include any person who is a director, member, partner, employee, acquaintances or agent of, or consultant (“Associates”) of Signa Group, or any other person who directly or indirectly controls, is employed by or is controlled by Signa Group, and/or immediate family members of Associates. (“Disqualified Persons”).

Prize Award and Redemption: Once the application- and verification process has been successfully completed, the winner will be declared and notified telephonically. The winners will be directed by Signa Group on the steps which they must take to redeem the prize and must do all that is necessary to redeem the prize. Signa Group will not be responsible for any other expenses which the winner may incur as a result of their acceptance or use of the prize, whether foreseen or not.

Image Rights and Media: Signa Group may request the winner, and the winner hereby agrees to be identified and photographed and to have the photographs published in various media, including but not limited to print and web-based media, or to appear on radio and television, when accepting their prizes, after having received their prizes or for Signa Group’s marketing material so far as it relates to the Competition. No fee will be payable to the winner for the pictures or any inclusion by the winner in any marketing or media materials of whatever nature. All intellectual property in the images or Competition footage shall vest in Signa Group. The winner will however be given the opportunity to decline the publication of their images or participation in Signa Group’s marketing material. All participants are deemed to have read and understood the terms and conditions of applicable social media sites, Promoters’ website, and of Participants mobile network service provider.

Transgressions: Any attempt to damage or interfere with microsites, mobile site, websites or any social media used in connection with the Competition or the information on it, or to otherwise undermine the legitimate operation of the Competition may be a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made, whether successful or not, Signa Group reserve the right to seek damages to the fullest extent permitted by law and report the matter for investigation to the relevant authorities. Signa Group also reserve the right (subject to applicable law) to disqualify or ban any individual who tampers with or attempts to subvert or interfere with the Competition mobile site, website, entry process or prize retrieval process.

Any participant who transgresses any of these terms and conditions or who acts in any way contrary to the spirit of this Competition may be banned from entry into this, or into any other Signa Group promotional competitions, for a period deemed appropriate by Signa Group.

Cancellation and Amendment: Signa Group reserve the right to cancel or amend or alter the Competition and its Terms or prizes (not already awarded, to any other prize of comparable commercial value) at their own discretion at any time, if deemed necessary in their opinion or if circumstances arise outside of their control, without prior notice and no participant shall have recourse for such cancellation or alteration. Any changes will be posted either within the Competition information and these Terms shall become effective immediately after being altered and published or on such date as may be determined by the Promoters. No participant shall have any recourse against Signa Group as a result of the alterations of the Terms or prizes.

Invalid Entries: The Promoters may refuse to award the prize if the Terms have not been adhered to or if the Promoters detect any irregularities or fraudulent practices.

Defects: The Promoters are not liable for any defect in the prizes.

Limitation of Liability: To the maximum extent permitted by law, the participants, winners, and/or users of the prizes indemnify and hold Signa Group, advisors and nominated agents and each of their affiliates blameless for any loss, damage, harm or injury, which the participants, prize winners or users of the prizes may sustain as a result of any claim which may be made against it by any third party. The participants, winners or users of the prizes indemnify Signa Group, their advisors, nominated agents, suppliers, its affiliates or associated companies against any claim of any nature whatsoever arising out of or from their participation in any way in the Competition or their use of the prizes (including, as the result of any act or omission, whether negligent or otherwise on the part of Signa Group).

Non-Waiver of Terms: A failure by Signa Group to enforce any one of the Terms in any instance(s) will not give rise to any claim or right of action by any participant or prize winner, nor shall it be deemed to be a waiver of any of Signa Group’s rights in relation to the same.

Legal Compliance: All participants are advised that in compliance with the laws of the countries in which Signa Group operates, Signa Group is required to retain certain information (where applicable) of participants and winners for a period of 3 (three) years (“Personal Information”). Such Personal Information to be retained by Signa Group includes (but is not limited to) the full names, identity numbers, contact details and winners’ acknowledgement of prize receipts. Accordingly, Signa Group will require the winners to complete and submit an information disclosure agreement and indemnification to enable Signa Group to ensure compliance with these rules, as well as with the South African Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 (“Consumer Act”). Should any participant or winner refuse or be unable to comply with this rule for any reason, such participant or winner will be deemed to have rejected the prizes and it shall revert back to Signa Group.

Severability: If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or
unenforceable by any court of competent jurisdiction, then that provision shall be severed from these Terms and shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any remaining provisions.

Privacy and Data Protection Conditions: The Parties shall fully comply with the statutory obligations contained in POPI when processing Personal Information that each Party is exposed to during the course of this Competition, which includes but is not limited to information relating to the Company’s employees, customers, suppliers, service providers and business, and the personal information of any entrant or winner (Data Subjects). Without limiting the generality of the aforesaid Parties shall ensure that the Privacy and Data Protection Conditions are strictly adhered to when processing the data subject’s Personal Information, and either Party shall have the absolute right at its sole discretion to conduct a POPI compliance audit of the other Party’s systems and processes when handling and processing Personal Information. Furthermore, each Party indemnifies and holds the other Party harmless from any direct liability arising from its failure to comply with the statutory obligations contained in POPI.

Law and jurisdiction: These Terms shall be governed by the laws of South Africa. The participant consents to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the High Court (Gauteng Local Division, Johannesburg) in respect of all matters arising out of or in connection with the Terms.
